We make two types of folding doors: standard bifolds and Beefy Bifolds. The standard bifold originated as a sleek, european design, perfect for conventional openings to the outdoors. The Beefy Bifold is a different breed entirely. It’s designed for huge openings, and its heavy duty profile matches the rest of our sliding doors systems.
We build wood, aluminum, and aluminum wood folding doors to fold in or outward. Standard bifold systems are designed for heights up to 10′ with panels over 3′ wide. Smaller size bifold specifications are often used as a unique window solution for kitchens or bar areas. Our standard bifolding door has hidden hinges, internal shootbolts, and is available in inswing or outswing.
The Weiland Beefy Bifold is a proprietary folding door that we’ve engineered to maximize wall openings. It’s designed to accomodate large openings, with panels reaching up to 13.5 feet tall. Center-pivoting, with easy shoot-bolt locking hardware, large sizes, and a low profile track, this door system is a robust design based on previous lighter and smaller European bifold doors. Our beefy bifolding door has surface mount hinges, internal shootbolts, and are center pivot.
The hardware we use is engineered for dependability, durability, and smooth operation. Weiland works closely with European vendors, some with over 100 years of history, to provide the best components available. Backed by rigorous testing and experience with custom applications, our hardware choices give Weiland doors and windows the feel of luxury and effortless operation.
The Beefy Bifold’s heavy-duty hardware system supports larger door panels without sacrificing ease of operation. Because the Beefy Bifold is a center pivot system, the doors fold in and out. This enables Weiland to build individual panel sizes over 13’ tall and up to 5’ wide. Openings can be as wide as 40’. Larger panel sizes means less obstructions and more view.
Standard all aluminum and aluminum wood folding doors can be built to fold inward or outward, opening up further design possibilities. Standard bifold panels reach up to 10’ tall, with panel widths up to 3’.
Vary the number of panels to suit your opening size and configuration. Or specify a standard bifold as a window for a kitchen or bar area. Create drama by opening up your space with a corner bifold without a meeting post. The almost endless design options free you up to be creative.
Individually operable doors can be built into most units for more exit options. And standard bifolds can position a swinging door within the configuration of an odd number of panels. Operable doors are great for frequent entry and exit, without needing to unlock the entire system.
Our aluminum wood bifolding door's panels are available in heights up to 9' and 10" and widths up to 3' and 3".
Our aluminum bifolding door's panels are available in height up to 9' and widths up to 3' and 3". The side stiles, top and bottom rail are all 2-1/16" wide with a sash thickness of 1-9/16".
To learn about maximum panel height and width for bifolding doors please give us a call. The side stiles, top and bottom rail are all 3-5/8" wide with a sash thickness of 2-1/4".
Our aluminum wood beefy bifolding door can have panels up to 13-1/2' tall. An intermediate rail can increase the maximum height. The sash dimensions on our aluminum wood beefy bifolding doors are 3-1/2" wide and a thickness of 3-3/16", with the bottom rail being 3-1/2" wide and an option for a double bottom rail. Weiland offers high quality Kynar 500® as its standard exterior finish. Kynar 500® provides outstanding color retention and weather resistance due to a time tested formulation containing a high percentage of resin, meeting AAMA 2605-05 performance requirements. Powder coating and anodizing are also available (anodizing will add approximately two weeks to lead times).
Weiland uses the highest quality wood species available on the market, enabling our clients to match any custom wood cabinetry. Mahogany, douglas fir, walnut, cherry, alder and many other wood types are often used. For special projects, customers can also choose any available wood species.
We’ll match any clad colors of window manufacturers. For custom color matching just send us a color sample (some custom or metallic colors may cost more or have longer lead times).
Options include insulated units with tempered glass and various coatings to optimize energy efficiency including laminated, tinted, and other options. Low E3 and other available coatings greatly reduce heat transfer through glass and also help minimize fading of furniture and carpets that can be caused by harmful UV rays. Divided lites and lock rails are also available. The choice for no glass is offered if the client chooses to use a unique glass or would like to have the glazing done on-site by others.
Glass plays an important role in the beauty and performance of a door or window. We rigorously inspect our glass to ensure that every piece matches our quality expectations. Any glass available up to 1-1/2″ thick can be ordered to match most other glass types available and meet necessary energy requirements.
Because Weiland systems are used in extreme environments, including harsh desert heat and frigid cold ski resorts, we work with an array of glass suppliers and manufacturers to offer the highest performance glass.
The jambs on our standard bifold systems are only 2” wide, and less than 4” wide on the more robust Beefy Bifold. Because of their narrow profile, our bifold jambs fit into almost all existing wall conditions, whether in new construction projects or in remodels.
Folding door threshold can include flush bottom track with a built-in drainage system. So you can use a bifold system to blur the boundary between the indoors and outdoors, and feel protected from bad weather. Weiland bifold side jambs and head tracks can be buried in most applications for a cleaner, more custom look.
The bottom track on Weiland folding door systems is a U channel track available with drainage, to keep the weather out. It sits only 3/8” above the finished floor and creates a smooth, low profile transition from indoors to outdoors. And since it is made of durable, corrosion resistant stainless steel, it will withstand wear and tear for years to come.
